Chandler Heights Utility Relocations

Project Owner: City of Chandler
Project Type: Construction Manager at Risk
Construction Dates: 04/22 to 01/23

The City of Chandler, Intel, and Salt River Project (SRP) worked together on the High-Tech Interconnect Project to provide power to the $20 billion expansion of Intel’s Ocotillo Campus. This expansion is the largest private investment in Arizona history and required the construction of new SRP underground 230kV transmission lines from the Schrader substation to the Intel campus. To facilitate SRP’s work, as part of the multi-phased (3 GMPs) Chandler Heights Utility Relocations CMAR project, we provided the relocation/reinforcement of the existing utilities within the underground powerline corridor. Work included:

  • 2,700 LF of water line (6” to 16” )

  • 4,100 LF of sewer line (8” to 15”)

  • 20 manholes (60”)

  • 8,000 SY of pavement replacement

We installed1,000 LF of the water line inside steel casings (24”to 36”) with heat-resistant centralizers and SRP-approved backfill to provide protection from thermal and electromagnetic impacts.

Work has been completed on Chandler Heights Road, Alma School Road, Lake Drive, Chaparral Way, and Dobson Road. This project had a critical schedule, as the relocations needed to be complete before SRP began work. We coordinated with SRP and Intel’s project, which is under development concurrently. We worked to maintain access throughout this busy corridor.
