DAN SPITZA, PE, VMA
President
Dan started his career in Arizona in 1985 and joined the Achen-Gardner team as an estimator and project manager in April 1998. Dan possesses all of the necessary experience and knowledge to participate and understand all phases of any project. His years in the southwest area construction industry, impressive background as a registered professional civil engineer, and grass roots experience having held positions ranging from project engineer to project superintendent to design phase manager have enabled him to effectively evaluate the construction methods and management systems at Achen-Gardner in order to achieve new levels of excellence. His efforts have been rewarded with steady increases in Achen-Gardner’s competitiveness, annual volume, and market share.
Dan is an active member of AWA, DBIA, and the Arizona Chapters of AGC, APWA, and ACEC. His expertise and ability to establish important professional relationships has been instrumental in Achen-Gardner’s recognition as one of the most respected heavy/highway construction companies in the state of Arizona.
Dan is a second-generation civil engineer born and raised in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin (Madison, WI). He has two boys, Jack and Max.
KEVIN NUNEZ
Senior Vice President
Kevin joined the Achen-Gardner team in August 1994. His commitment to increasing his knowledge and experience, as well as his dedication to Achen-Gardner’s pursuit of construction excellence have made him an incredible asset to the company and the construction industry. Kevin’s work ethic and detailed attention to developing Achen-Gardner’s best management practices have allowed the Achen-Gardner team to consistently deliver high-quality award-winning projects for our clients.
In the construction industry since 1989, Kevin’s experience includes estimating, construction engineering, design engineering, and project management. His direct involvement and supervision of field personnel has enabled him to successfully complete projects on time and within budget. His many responsibilities include supervising contract negotiations and administration, providing technical support to field supervision, and maintaining a key role in insuring the accurate accounting of productions, quantities, and associated costs.
Kevin was born and raised in Arizona and holds a B.S. in Construction Management from Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ). Kevin is married and has three children, Cody, Cailey, and Cory, and three grandchildren.
BRYAN MUELLER
Vice President, Project Executive
Bryan has been in the construction industry for more than 32 years. He was born and raised in St. Charles, Missouri. After college, he moved to Arizona to work as a Project Engineer and Project Manager. For the first 12 years of his career, he worked all over Arizona, California, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Nevada. After Bryan met his wife and started a family, he moved into estimating. He started as a Senior Structural Estimator and then served as a Chief Estimator for almost 10 years. Bryan joined Achen-Gardner in March of 2022. He serves as our Vice President and Project Executive. He brings an impressive background in all aspects of heavy civil construction, and he will continue to leverage his knowledge, experience, and relationships in support of all our employee-owners to ensure our growth and success. Bryan is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Chapter Associated General Contractors.
Bryan and his wife Alisa have two kids, Jake and Everly. They are happy to call Chandler, Arizona their home.
MIKE GEWECKE
Vice President, Field Operations Manager
Mike has more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry, and he has been an employee-owner at Achen-Gardner Construction since 2012. His work as a laborer, operator, foreman, project superintendent, general superintendent, and field operations manager has given him a unique understanding of construction from a variety of perspectives. Mike's extensive knowledge and exceptional leadership skills have played a key role in building our excellent reputation for providing skilled labor and resources to successfully complete any project.
His expertise in construction techniques, personnel management, safety programs, construction coordination, scheduling, and cost control are all used to support our crews for the highest quality work on every job. Mike’s decades of supervision along with his boots-on-the-ground approach to managing people and their work makes him an invaluable asset to ensuring prompt, strategic, and high-quality services. Field crews respect his understanding of the process it takes for them to build projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Mike's midwestern upbringing instilled a hardworking attitude and a love of working outside. He and his wife Jill have two daughters. They’re a very active family, often going wakeboarding or four-wheeling together.
